BC Hydro says 971 customers lost power near Marine Drive Thursday evening due to equipment failure.

Spokesperson Susie Rieder told Peace Arch News Friday that eight customers lost power after a primary insulator cracked. At 9:30 p.m., BC Hydro cut the power to 971 customers to replace the cracked insulator.

The power was restored at 11:50 p.m.

“It’s a bit of a process when something like that happens on those concrete poles. You have to bring in flaggers and close down the area because we replaced all the bolts and parts on that pole,” Rieder said.

The power was out from west of Pacific Avenue, south of Beuna Vista Avenue and east of Marine Drive.
