The City of Surrey is seeking public feedback in its effort to refine its new Official Community Plan, which is expected to be completed this year.

Surrey Mayor Brenda Locke stated in a press release that the OCP will be a "blueprint" for the city and input from the public "will be integral" in shaping Surrey's future.

Surrey's OCP is more than 10 years old and the provincial government now requires it to be updated every five years.

“This is a unique opportunity for our community to voice their thoughts on the key areas that will guide our city’s growth, from housing and transportation to climate preparedness," Locke said. "I urge Surrey residents, businesses and community organizations to participate in the online survey and workshops, as your insights will play a crucial role in defining Surrey’s future as we plan for long-term development and growth.”

An online survey and workshops will continue to April 30. According to the press release, information gathered will help city hall develop policies related to housing, Surrey's economy, transportation, utility Infrastructure, natural assets, biodiversity and green infrastructure, community and social infrastructure, climate, natural hazards and emergency preparedness, agriculture and food systems.

Ron Gill – Surrey's general manager of planning and development – describes the OCP as a "foundational" document.

"The undertaking of updating an OCP is no easy task,” he said. "I am proud of the work City staff have put forward in taking on this immense task and listening to residents about their priorities as we work together to plan for Surrey’s future.”
