Two youths to hospital following assault outside South Surrey aquatic centre

Police responded to a 911 report at 7:45 p.m. June 5

Police in Surrey are investigating an assault that occurred outside the Grandview Heights Aquatic Centre last week that sent two male youths to hospital with minor injuries.

According to Surrey Police Service Staff Sgt. Lindsey Houghton, officers responded to the 16855 24 Ave. facility following a 911 call reporting a fight between two groups of youths at around 7:45 p.m. on June 5.

"Two youth victims were pepper-sprayed," Houghton confirmed.

"The investigation is ongoing and no arrests have been made."

Houghton said investigators with the RCMP Surrey Provincial Operations Support Unit have not asked for a public appeal regarding suspect descriptions, however, a woman identifying herself as the mother of one of the victims shared some details of the incident in a post to social media, noting she wanted it known "as this is a safety concern for all our children."

"My 12 year old son and his friend were attacked by 4 teenage boys. They were punched and bear maced," the post by Sunshine Marie to the White Rock/South Surrey Community Group Facebook page states.

"My son spent his evening in the ER after this attack."

The mother expressed thanks to a "Good Samaritan couple" who stopped to help her son, as well as to a paramedic.
