Football season is in full swing at five high schools in Surrey and Delta, with exhibition games out of the way for some teams and "real" action about to begin.
This year, Surrey-based teams in the two senior divisions are Sullivan Heights Stars, Holy Cross Crusaders, Lord Tweedsmuir Panthers and Earl Marriott Mariners, along with North Delta's Seaquam Seahawks.
Across the province, the BC High School Football league involves 18 AAA-division varsity teams (for the largest schools) and 24 at the AA level.
Surrey rivals Sullivan Heights and Holy Cross kick off their regular seasons Friday (Sept. 20) with a 1:30 p.m. game at the Catholic school in Fleetwood, while Earl Marriott travels to Sardis for a 4:30 p.m. game.
Tweedsmuir plays its first AAA regular-season game Saturday, Sept. 28 at Vancouver College, and Seaquam gets going Friday, Sept. 27, when the Seahawks host Langley under the lights at John Oliver Park, 7 p.m. kickoff.
