With a ladder in one hand and a drive to deliver honest, high-quality service in the other, Shawn De Schutter launched Always Clean Maintenance more than two decades ago the old-fashioned way: by knocking on doors.
“I started about 22 years ago, just going around to malls and stores, reaching out to grocery chains, building it slowly,” says De Schutter, president of the White Rock-based company. “It was just me at first, then I started bringing on contractors. Now we’ve grown all the way from South Surrey to Hope and Squamish.”
Today, Always Clean Maintenance provides a wide range of residential and commercial cleaning services, including pressure washing, gutter cleaning, strata maintenance and janitorial services.
“There’s a real need for our services,” De Schutter says. “People want their roofs washed, their gutters cleaned and their homes maintained. And once you get one house looking good, neighbours notice – it spreads by word of mouth.”
While those happy clients remain a key driver of growth, the company has also built an accessible website and offers free quotes to streamline service. They’ve earned an A+ rating with the Better Business Bureau and prioritize strong safety protocols for every job.
“The biggest thing is experience, and the fact that all our employees have a real interest in their work and well-being,” he says. “We love to make you clean, that’s our slogan. We offer quick service and fair prices. We’re not the cheapest, or the priciest, we are honest.”
Many customers return annually, thanks in part to the company’s timely reminders for maintenance follow-ups.Though their service area has grown, the company remains proudly rooted in White Rock.
“Especially in White Rock, there’s a lot of senior citizens who really appreciate dealing with people they know,” De Schutter says. “It’s a very friendly community and we like being a part of that.”
