At virtually no time in recent memory has support for local business been more important.

From evolving COVID protocols to ongoing supply chain disruptions, businesses of all sizes have worked hard, with community support, to weather the challenges of the past few years.

It’s timely, then, that as the South Surrey & White Rock Chamber of Commerce marks its 85th anniversary, it does so with the launch of a unique initiative bringing added support for local businesses.

“We’re excited – it’s going to be a real difference in the community,” says Ritu Khanna, Chamber Executive Director.

Made possible thanks to a federal government grant, the Chamber’s Support Local campaign invites member businesses, especially those in sectors that have been hardest hit by the pandemic, to take advantage of:

  • Professionally produced videos highlighting the business and key products/services, filmed on site by a team of videographers with expertise in digital marketing. The videos will be shared by the Chamber and provided to the business to use on their own website and social media.
  • Gift cards purchased from participating businesses to be used for giveaways.
  • Collateral marketing package of ‘Shop Local’ display material.
  • Reusable shopping bags, especially useful with the recent ban of plastic bags by some municipalities, including Surrey.
  • Business feature opportunities for virtual and in-person events, such as the Winter Arts Variety Show, etc.
  • Free tickets to coming community events.
  • Additional digital marketing and support through the Chamber and partner channels, and press outreach.

Valued at more than $2,000, the cost to Chamber members is free, although registration is required. All businesses are welcome to participate and join the Chamber to access the resources at no cost – email info@sswrchamber.ca for details.

Advocating for local business for 85 years

The Support Local initiative is the latest in the South Surrey White Rock Chamber of Commerce’s long history. Founded in 1937, the non-profit organization works to support, advocate for, connect and promote its members and the local business community.

The Chamber’s role has never been more critical than through the pandemic. Among the many resources it has provided to businesses and the community are more than 100 virtual events, including COVID-19 Community Town Halls, leadership training courses, specialized webinars, weekly networking meetings and all-candidates forums for two elections, and valuable updates and information shared through the Chamber e-newsletter and our social media channels. Part of a provincial and national network of Chambers advocating for businesses at each level of government, the local Chamber is proud to be the voice of business in this community.

Other benefits of Chamber membership include access to an extensive business network, the Chambers of Commerce Group Health Insurance Plan and a variety of discounts through fellow members.
