A new addition to South Surrey’s culinary scene offers a fresh take on Indian cuisine with a menu that spans both regional specialties and modern fusions.

Opened in December 2023, Spice Republic sources some of its spices directly from India while combining culinary influences from across the globe.

“We wanted to bring the best of India – north, south, east, and west, with a modern twist,” says Amarjeet Saini, owner and head chef at Spice Republic.

With more than 34 years of culinary experience, including his first venture at the Delta, Saini is determined to craft a dining experience that is both familiar and adventurous.

“We’ve infused elements from Asian cuisines and introduced dishes like kebabs and other fusion items that resonate with local tastes while maintaining authentic Indian roots,” he says.

“We don’t use any artificial flavours or preservatives in our cooking,” says Amarjeet Saini, owner and head chef at Spice Republic. “Everything, from the meat marinades to our sauces, is made fresh in-house.” Photos courtesy of Spice Republic.

Natural ingredients and in-house preparation, ensure delicious results. “We don’t use any artificial flavours or preservatives in our cooking,” Saini says. “Everything, from the meat marinades to our sauces, is made fresh in-house.”

Beyond the expected curries and biryanis, the restaurant’s menu contains a variety of vegetarian and non-vegetarian options .

“For vegetarians, our paneer dishes and tomato basil soup are particularly popular,” Saini notes.

“And for non-vegetarians, the lamb chops and kebabs are must-tries.” The attention to customization also extends to spice levels, with every dish tailored to individual preferences.

“Our customers are a mix of everyone – locals, South Asians, and people who’ve become regulars,” he says. “It’s about the food, but it’s also about creating a space where people can come together and share a great experience.”

The restaurant has already established itself as a go-to spot for special occasions, offering happy hours from 3 to 6 p.m. and 9 to 11 p.m., as well as lunch specials that include soups, salads and other quick bites at accessible prices.

“We’re passionate about what we do,” Saini shares, “and our goal is to keep providing great food and even better service.”

For those looking to sample the diverse menu from home, the restaurant offers online orders with a 10 per cent discount. “We’re always looking for ways to connect with our customers and make dining easier for everyone,” Saini says.

“We believe in what we’re doing and in sharing the rich culture of Indian food with our community. It’s about good food, good company and good times.”
