When Youla and Vivek Thomas first brought Heart to Home Meals to Vancouver in 2022, it meant more than just business. They understood firsthand the challenges seniors face in maintaining independence and staying well-nourished.
As primary caregivers for a family member, they wanted nutritious meal options that could conveniently support the needs of older adults living alone. Their search led them to Heart to Home Meals, a service they found essential for seniors who need a helping hand while continuing to live in the comfort of their own homes.
Today, the Vancouver branch has become a trusted resource for hundreds of seniors and their families, offering a variety of quality meals with a combination of convenience and above all, compassion.
With more than 200 meal options, Heart to Home Meals takes a holistic approach to nutrition, ensuring seniors can enjoy meals that not only meet their dietary needs but also satisfy their individual preferences.
Executive Chef Marc Miron works closely with the production team to ensure every meal is nutritionally balanced and crafted to meet specific health requirements. From hearty entrees featuring beef, chicken, pork, fish and vegetarian options, to satisfying soups and desserts, there’s something for every taste and health need.
Additionally, their easy-to-navigate diet coding system allows seniors to select meals based on health considerations such as high protein, low sodium, high fiber and more. This level of customization empowers seniors to make meal choices aligned with their medical needs and dietary preferences.
Flexible options for every diner
Recognizing the unique challenges seniors may face, Heart to Home Meals goes beyond just standard meal sizes, offering options like mini-meals that cater to smaller appetites, and hearty servings for those who enjoy larger portions.
The company also offers a selection of soft-textured meals for individuals who have difficulty with regular textures. By designing meal sizes and textures around individual needs, Heart to Home Meals ensures that all seniors, regardless of appetite or physical limitations, have access to delicious, nourishing food.
Heart to Home Meals also prioritizes safety and convenience in its delivery process. All meals are prepared in a health-regulated kitchen in Ottawa, then shipped to Vancouver’s Delta facility. The meals are stored in a walk-in freezer and delivered directly to clients’ doors via freezer vans. Delivery drivers, who must have received police clearance before joining the Heart to Home Meals team, will even place the meals directly in customers' freezers, if needed.
Unlike other meal services, Heart to Home Meals does not charge delivery fees or require long-term contracts, preferring to keep services more accessible and affordable. This commitment to transparency extends to price stability; the company did implement a price freeze for an extended period recently to ease seniors’ financial concerns in challenging economic times.
Seniors in Delta, White Rock, Vancouver, New Westminster, Burnaby, Richmond, West Vancouver and North Vancouver can place orders by phone or online for weekly delivery. To learn more, call 778-308-4351 or visit hearttohomemeals.ca.
