Simranpreet Dhillon and Gurjinder Sodha face multiple charges in connection with a pair of violent sexual assaults in Surrey in 2012. Charges against a third man were stayed last week.

One of three men charged last spring in connection with two violent Surrey sexual assaults has had his charges stayed.

In May, Simranpreet Singh Dhillon, Gurjinder Sodha and Sukhraj Singh Chahal were charged in two separate 2012 attacks on two different women.

However, court records show a stay of proceedings was ordered last Friday on three charges laid against Chahal, meaning the case against him has been dropped.

Multiple charges remain against Dhillon, 21, and Sodha, 24.

It's alleged Dhillon picked up a sex trade worker near King George Boulevard and 91 Avenue on Aug. 12, 2012 and drove her to a secluded area of Colebrook Road, where she was violently assaulted.

Both Dhillon and Sodha are also charged in a second incident Oct. 18, 2012 when it's alleged another woman was picked up near King George Boulevard and 105 Avenue and also taken to Colebrook Road where she was physically and sexually assaulted.

Dhillon faces 11 charges, including two each of sexual assault with a weapon, unlawful confinement, uttering threats to cause death or bodily harm, robbery and possessing weapons/firearms, plus one charge of aggravated assault.

Sodha faces three charges – sexual assault with a weapon, unlawful confinement and robbery.

Neither man is in custody. Their next court date is Jan. 16.
