Attention civic election candidates: Pick up your campaign signs or pay a penalty, the city says.
According to Surrey’s bylaws, candidates have two weeks to pack up any signs that remain throughout the city.
That means the deadline is this Saturday (Dec. 3).
While it’s unlikely the city will put a team of bylaw officers on weekend duty, those who still have their signs up on Monday will likely face fines.
The Leader and the city received several complaints about signs left by Surrey mayoral candidate Vikram Bajwa.
Bajwa said in an interview Thursday he has all of his large signs down and will remove all the smaller signs by Saturday.
Surrey’s sign bylaw states that anyone violating it is subject to a fine of “not less than $100 and not more than $2,000 for each offense.”
