A 45-year-old White Rock resident has died of a drug overdose.
White Rock RCMP Const. Chantal Sears said she could not share many details, but confirmed to Peace Arch News that police were alerted to the death just before 7 a.m. Monday (Feb. 6).
"It's definitely a drug overdose," Sears said Tuesday afternoon.
"Toxicology (testing) hasn't come back yet."
The identity of the deceased and exactly where the death occurred has not been released.
The investigation, said Sears, has been turned over to the coroner.
Sears said the death is the only fatal overdose she is aware of so far this year in White Rock. Statistics to determine the exact toll in the city for last year and 2017 to date have been requested, she said.
Last November, White Rock recorded two fatal overdoses in one weekend. In one incident, children were home at the time.
Police said both of the deaths were linked to fentanyl, the deadly synthetic opioid that has been connected to a majority of the 914 illicit-drug overdose deaths that occurred last year in B.C.
Sears said that in the latest death, there is no indication that children were present at the time.
