White Rock police believe speed and alcohol were factors in a crash that damaged a parked car and two homes on Oxford Street Oct. 6

And they say it's sheer luck that no one was seriously hurt in the collision.

Sgt. Manley Burleigh said the 25-year-old driver and sole occupant of a late-model BMW was taken to hospital with minor injuries following the crash, which occurred around 11 p.m..

White Rock Coun. Larry Robinson was on his way home when he came across the aftermath when he turned off of Marine Drive onto Oxford about 20 minutes after the collision. The parked car had already been towed, but he saw one home with damage to its carport and another with a hole in its wall, he said.

"It was a heck of a way to wreck a BMW," Robinson said, describing the fact that injuries were minor as "astonishing."

"The whole wheel assembly, including the frame piece, was broken right off, laying in the street."

Investigation is ongoing. Anyone with information is asked to call the detachment at 778-593-3600.
