VIDEO: Crowds gather for Vancouver’s 4/20 celebration

Despite legalization being just over a year away, thousands of people gathered at Sunset Beach for 4/20 celebrations on Thursday.

Vancouver Police had warned residents Wednesday night that streets would be closed and traffic would be slow downtown but in a statement released Thursdasy night, the department said the crowd of vendors, marijuana enthusiasts and the curious remained mellow.

During the busiest times of the day, Vancouver Police say that about 40,000 people and 525 vendor tents gathered at Sunset Beach. Another 150 people were at smaller 4/20 event at the Vancouver Art Gallery. Emergency responders attended to 39 incidents and sent 19 people to hospital for further treatment.
