The 152 Street overpass damaged Monday when it was hit by a truck hauling car-crushing equipment northbound on Highway 99 will continue to be restricted to single-lane traffic “until further notice.”
Ministry of transportation’s Brendan Phelps told Peace Arch News Thursday that a structural assessment determined the overpass “requires extensive repairs.”
Traffic along Highway 99 below will also continue to be restricted to one northbound lane “until further notice,” Phelps said.

The 152nd St overpass is open to southbound traffic only, and is closed to northbound traffic.

Access along the two roads has been limited since the incident, which occurred around 10:30 a.m. Monday. Highway 99 was initially closed northbound from 16 Avenue, and the overpass was shut down in both directions.
Following work to stabilize the overpass, one of the highway’s northbound lanes was opened just before 5:30 a.m. Tuesday.
Ministry updates online indicate a northbound lane of the overpass was opened just before 5 p.m. that day, and within an hour of that, single-lane alternating traffic was allowed.
The overpass has been restricted to southbound traffic since just before midnight Tuesday.
Phelps said the ministry is in the process of developing a repair plan, including designs and cost.
According to a news release issued just before noon Thursday, work will begin “as soon as possible,” and the ministry will provide an update in early January.
