Delta’s extreme weather shelter will be open for the second time this year starting Saturday night (Dec 1).

According to Delta’s social planner Gillian McLeod, a weather alert will likely be called Saturday morning and the shelter will be open Saturday night starting at 9 p.m. It will stay open until Tuesday morning — and may be extended until Thursday morning depending on the weather.

The shelter, located at Ladner United Church (4960 48 Ave), has already been open once this season.

After the shelter closed on Nov. 27, the Ladner United Church put out a video showing what the shelter looks like while it’s open.

The extreme weather shelter will be open from 9 p.m. to 7 a.m. on days when an extreme weather alert is called in Delta. There are nine beds in the shelter; coffee, breakfast and showers are provided.

Delta Police will be providing evening rides to the shelter for those who need them.
