A eastbound roll-over crash on Highway 1 in Langley this morning has resulted in one death.

Langley deputy fire chief, Russ Jenkins, said the call to attend the crash – on the 22200 block of the Trans-Canada highway – came in at 6:05 a.m.

“A vehicle left the road and rolled a few times,” he said, “There was one person in the vehicle at that point in time, but we don’t know what caused the accident.”

Jenkins said the vehicle was a white pick-up truck but could not comment on whether there were any injuries.

RCMP division media relations officer, Chris Manseau, confirmed the crash was fatal for the vehicle’s occupant.

“Investigators have preliminary determined that weather, visibility and/or road conditions do not appear to be factors [in the crash],” he said.

“Witnesses reported seeing sparks and the vehicle began to rotate counter-clockwise and drifted off the road to the left.

“It’s under investigation if there was a mechanical malfunction that caused this collision.

“A search of the area was conducted and confirmed that only one occupant was in the vehicle at the time of the crash.”

Investigators are still trying to reach next of kin for the victim, so were unable to provide further details.
