The race to run White Rock city hall is on.
Nominations closed at 4 p.m. today (Friday, Oct. 14), with four people vying for the mayor's seat and 14 aiming for one of six spots as councillor.
The top chair is being sought by Coun. Lynn Sinclair, businessman Larry Anschell, former city manager Wayne Baldwin and Angelo Megla.
Councillor hopefuls include Brad Forster, Larry Robinson, Bruce McWilliam, Cliff Annable, Dave Chesney, Graham Wood, Barry Belec, Steven Hughes, Roger Emanuels, and Louise Hutchinson, along with incumbent Couns. Mary-Wade Anderson, Grant Meyer, Al Campbell and Helen Fathers.
Annable and Hutchinson have both previously held seats on council.
Laurae McNally, current chair of the Surrey school board, was the only candidate to file nomination papers for the seat of school trustee.
While former councillor James Coleridge told Peace Arch News last week that he was contemplating another run at council, a late-afternoon email Friday confirmed his name will not be on the ballot. Coleridge – ousted by B.C. Supreme Court in 2009 – cited the time he'd have to sacrifice away from his family and his Vancouver gelato business as deciding factors.
General voting day is Nov. 19. Advance voting dates are Nov. 8, 9 and 15.
Any candidates who change their mind about running have until 4 p.m. Oct. 21 to withdraw from the election.
