A Surrey woman will not be visiting Park Place or purchasing a house on Marvin Gardens, but will instead be going to jail for her part in a drug smuggling scheme in Manitoba.

Harpreet Kaur Bains, 28, was arrested in December 2008, as were two other women from Manitoba, after border guards in that province found several kilograms of heroin stashed  inside Monopoly boxes disguised as Christmas presents.

Bains pleaded guilty to a charge of importing, while Winnipeg resident Amanda Kazubek pleaded guilty to trafficking. The third woman, Tracy Lynne Pongratz, had her charges stayed.

The seizure, worth about $250,000, was said to be the largest by Manitoba RCMP. Officials believe the drugs originated from the United Kingdom and were intended to eventually end up in Surrey.

Bains and Kazubek are scheduled to be sentenced in June.
