Well, it’s not exactly a trip to the cottage, but this “Canadian Summer” is kind of neat, anyway.
If you visit the Central City plaza, in Surrey’s city centre, you’ll find a “PARKit 150 pop-up park” that was set up this past Monday to celebrate Canada’s 150th birthday this year. It’ll be there until Sept. 11.
It looks like a hybrid between public art and a playground. Visitors will find at the installation, which was designed by North Vancouver landscape artist Amy Tsang, a fixed canoe, painted lake, wooden dock, picnic tables, Adirondack chairs, a sculpture beaver dam and some cedar and maple trees. There’s also a piano, inviting visitors to tickle those ivories.
“Visitors to the site can enjoy the feel of a classic Canadian summer day spent relaxing at the lake,” said Meghan McCrea, marketing and community relations manager for Blackwood Partners Management Corporation.

McRrea told the Now-Leader she hasn’t yet taken the canoe for a ride, but plans to soon. “I’ll have to do that this week,” she chuckled. Asked how far she plans to paddle, she laughed “Not too far, I think.”
