Goodbye snow, hello ice?

Environment Canada is warning of freezing rain

The region, including Surrey, is enjoying a small respite from the record snowfall.

However, Environment Canada says that is likely to change on Wednesday night, when heavy snow is expected.

"With Arctic air in place, there will be heavy snow initially Wednesday night along with a good chance of freezing rain," Environment Canada says in its weather watch. "Freezing rain will be a particular problem for the Fraser Valley. Rapidly accumulating snow could make travel difficult over some locations. Surfaces such as highways, roads, walkways and parking lots may become icy and slippery. Localized flooding in low-lying areas is possible."

Last weekend saw record amounts of snow hit the region, and for the first time in recent memory, Surrey schools were closed.

Perhaps not surprisingly, ICBC dial-a-claim volumes were also at record highs.
