The "high-risk arrest" of a Surrey man wanted on numerous outstanding warrants in Maple Ridge played out in South Surrey early Wednesday.

According to a news release issued just after 1 p.m. July 6, officers took 33-year-old Jason Carl Lindgren into custody shortly before 2 a.m., as he was attempting to exit an underground parking garage.

Ridge Meadows RCMP issued a public appeal Monday for help locating Lindgren in connection with an alleged targeted kidnapping case from June 2, in which he has been charged with kidnapping, forcible confinement, assault with a weapon, assault causing bodily harm and pointing a firearm.

In addition to the Maple Ridge charges, Lindgren is facing breach of undertaking and breach of recognizance charges, and is expected to face additional charges out of Surrey in connection with his arrest.

Surrey RCMP Sgt. Alanna Dunlop told Peace Arch News that police first spotted the suspect Wednesday in a vehicle in the 1600-block of 154 Street. Officers with the Mounties' anti-gang unit as well as police-dog teams converged on the area.

One witness told PAN by email that "multiple police vehicles and dogs" were on the scene, one person was apprehended and that an SUV could be seen backed into the gate of a parking garage in the 15400-block of 16A Avenue.

Lindgren was taken to hospital with minor injuries, and more charges are expected.

Dunlop said the arrest was described as high-risk "because of the nature of the charges – they're very serious."

Extra precautions were taken to ensure public safety, she added.

Surrey RCMP Insp. Shawna Baher, the detachment's proactive enforcement officer, described the arrest as "another example of the progress being made to safely remove such dangerous and high-isk offenders from Lower Mainland communities."

“The expediency with which this arrest was affected is a direct result of the co-ordination amongst multiple police agencies working together to minimize risk and enhance public safety throughout the region,” Baher said in the release.
