Police are warning the public of the dangers of jaywalking after a vehicle struck a pedestrian in South Surrey.

Police are warning the public of the dangers of jaywalking after a vehicle struck a pedestrian in South Surrey the early hours of Christmas Eve.

A 19-year-old Surrey man was listed in stable condition after receiving serious injuries when he was hit while attempting to cross King George Boulevard in the 3100-block at approximately 2:57 a.m., Dec. 24.

The victim was struck by a southbound van driven by a 28-year-old Surrey man.

Witnesses to the incident who have not yet spoken to police are being asked to call the Surrey RCMP Traffic Section at 604-599-0502 (File no. 11-175263).

The detachment's Traffic Services department is urging pedestrians to cross at crosswalks and intersections, as jaywalking continues to be a major contributing factor to many collisions causing serious injuries or fatalities.
