Man charged with Christmas Eve attack

Police are still looking for a man they believe is responsible for a home invasion assault on Christmas Eve.

A Vancouver man has been charged in a Christmas Eve break-in and assault in Surrey.

Elkan Vyizigiro, 18, has been charged with assault with a weapon, break and enter with intent and face masked with intent.

He is in custody awaiting his next appearance.

On Dec. 24, 2015, two men broke into a home near 72 Avenue and 132 Street and assaulted a resident, who received head injuries requiring stitches.

A second person in the home was uninjured.

Images of the two suspects were caught on a surveillance camera and released at the time.

Surrey RCMP continue to seek information that could lead to the identification of the second suspect involved in this incident.

The suspect is described as a black male in his early 20s, who was wearing all-black clothing at the time, including a hoodie with a toque underneath, and light-coloured shoes.
