A 22-year-old North Surrey man is in serious condition after being shot multiple times while walking along a path in the 9300 block of 138 Street Monday night.

Police were called at about 11:45 p.m. by people who heard shots fired.

The man was found face-down in a public walkway about a block from Surrey Memorial Hospital. He had sustained multiple gunshot wounds, mostly to the torso.

The victim is known to police, but was being cooperative with investigators while he was conscious.

That led police to information about the gunman and the car he was driving.

Police later caught up with the stolen newer-model white Jeep Grand Cherokee in the 7500 block of 144 Street.

The male occupant of the vehicle saw police and fled on foot to a nearby residential area, where police lost sight of him.

A perimeter search of the area using police dogs failed to turn up the suspect.

Police are looking for a Caucasian male about 6' wearing a ball cap.

RCMP Cpl. Drew Grainger said police believe it was a targeted shooting, but that it is not linked to any of the recent gang violence in the region.

The victim is known to police for drug and minor assault instances.

As of 10 a.m. Tuesday, the victim was in surgery and is considered in serious condition.

"Some of the information we were able to obtain early in the investigation has led us to aggressively pursue this the moment we became aware of it," Grainger said.
