White Rock RCMP are looking for culprits who caused irreparable damage to a Greek statue on Marine Drive overnight May 14.

Angela Vickers, a Realtor with Westport Properties Group, said she learned about the damage to the statue on the Sunday morning.

“It’s been toppled over,” Vickers said. “A portion of its gown and its arm were taken.”

Westport principal Glenn Duff said the statue, weighing 2,000 pounds and worth about $10,000, was placed outside of the office a year ago, and “had quickly become a local landmark.”

He estimated it had been photographed “thousands of times.”

A crane truck was needed to bring it to the site, and was needed again to remove it, Duff said.

Vickers described the incident as “such a shame,” but said she is confident police will catch those responsible.

“There’s cameras,” she said. “We’ve got lots of faith.”

Const. Chantal Sears said police are asking for anyone who may have video of the area – in the 14800-block of Marine Drive – from the early morning hours of May 14 to contact the detachment at 778-593-3600.
