Something is amiss with signage on the Semiahmoo Peninsula, according to Rotary Club of South Surrey members.

The club, which has been advertising its biannual shredding event that next happens on June 3, has noticed that several of their signs advertising the fundraiser have simply disappeared.

“We put up the signs to advertise the event and we always take them down on the day of,” said Deirdre O’Ruairc, Rotary Club of South Surrey membership director.

“Ten or so (signs) have just gone missing… we’re a Rotary club, we’re trying to raise money, it would be nice if we received support from the community instead of someone, maybe, trying to work against us. It’s disappointing.”

The signs cost about $15 each and are re-used every year for the shredding events, which the club holds each June and October, to help raise funds to support their local and international projects, including a children’s home in Battambang, Cambodia.

This year’s June 3 shredding event happens at the Ocean Park Safeway from 10 a.m. to 1 p.m.

If someone has mistakenly, taken the signs, or if someone has found them, O’Ruairc hopes they’ll call the number on the signs and someone from Rotary will come and collect them.

“Any support is very much appreciated,” O’Ruairc said.

Anyone with information about the missing signs can call 604-803-0773.
