Woman who was shot at the Town and Country trailer park is taken to hospital.

A 28-year-old Newton woman is recovering after being shot in the ankle on the weekend.

On Sunday, at about 4 a.m., Mounties were called to the Town and Country Trailer Park in the 8200-block of King George Boulevard to attend to a woman suffering from a gunshot wound.

She had been in the parking lot of a convenience store at about 3:30 a.m. when a dark-coloured SUV pulled up.

She got into a verbal exchange with the occupants and walked back to her home at Town and Country.

The vehicle followed her and the argument continued there.

Someone in the SUV pulled out a gun and shot her in the lower leg.

The SUV then fled the scene.

The victim was taken to hospital where she was treated for her injury.

The exact motive for the shooting is unknown at this time, police say, but they note the incident does not appear to be random.

Anyone who may have witnessed the incident, or has any information about it, please call Surrey RCMP at 604-599-0502 or Crime Stoppers at 1-800-222-8477 (TIPS) to remain anonymous.
