One man has been charged in connection with a fire that occurred on Semiahmoo First Nation land Sunday.

Surrey RCMP confirmed Thursday that an arrest was made in connection with the blaze, which was reported just before noon May 15 – several hours after White Rock and Surrey fire crews were alerted to a massive blaze in White Rock's Five Corners.

"No link has been identified" between the two fires, Cpl. Scotty Schumann said.

Schumann said the SFN fire, in the 16000-block of Beach Road, was "really not a big deal."

"Some guy lit fire to some pallets on a basketball court."

An 18-year-old Surrey resident was arrested.

James Adrian Dyer appeared in Surrey Provincial Court Monday charged with arson. Released from custody Tuesday, he is due back in court on May 31.
