Peace Arch News staff have been recognized by News Media Canada with two first-place finishes in the Canadian Community Newspaper Awards (CCNA) 2019 competition.
Aaron Hinks took the top spot for Best Spot News Photo in the circulation class of 12,500 and over, for his photograph ‘Pier split in two in storm of century.’

The PAN news team was also honoured for their coverage of the Dec. 20, 2018 storm, with a first-place finish in the Best News Story category, circulation 12,500 and over.
This is not the first time the team’s coverage of the storm has received accolades.
In April, Hinks’ photo, showing the helicopter rescue of a man who became stranded on the broken pier during the storm, placed second in the B.C. and Yukon Community Newspaper’s Ma Murray Awards’ spot news category.
Hinks and reporter Tracy Holmes shared third-place honours at the BCYCNA competition for their Multimedia Breaking News coverage of the storm.
