Police flood Rosemary Heights following stolen-vehicle report

Investigation into a suspected stolen vehicle led police to shut down a Rosemary Heights neighbourhood

Investigation into a suspected stolen vehicle led police to briefly shut down a Rosemary Heights neighbourhood Thursday afternoon.

Surrey RCMP Cpl. Scotty Schumann said officers – including a dog unit and the Mounties’ dedicated helicopter – “flooded the area” near 150 Street and 34B Avenue just before 1 p.m.

“There was a car that had been reported stolen and was seen in the 15000-block of 34B Avenue,” Schumann said, noting eyewitnesses also reported seeing a driver in the vehicle.

While police located the vehicle – identified as a black BMW sedan – the culprit was nowhere to be found.

“If there was a driver, he’s disappeared into the night,” Schumann said.

Area residents reported seeing at least five police vehicles at the scene, as well as spike belts, and that 150 Street was blocked off.

Schumann said just before 2:30 p.m. that the spike belts were not deployed, as “the car never moved.”

Investigation is ongoing.
