A call to assist at the scene of a small fire along Marine Drive turned into a bomb-threat investigation for White Rock RCMP Monday morning.

Originally called to the 14800-block of Marine Drive – at the foot of Oxford Street – at 11:30 a.m. because of a small fire, a bomb threat was called in for the same location while RCMP members were still on the scene.

The area – a construction site – was quickly evacuated as a precaution, said White Rock RCMP Sgt. Joel Glen.

"We can't say if anything suspicious was recovered, but the site was turned back over to the construction company at 4 p.m.," he said.

The original fire was minimal and caused no damage, he added.

Late Monday, White Rock RCMP were again called to the city's waterfront after a report of gun shots at the beach.

The shots-fired call turned out to be fireworks, Glen said.
