Surrey RCMP are looking for public help in identifying a witness of a pedestrian fatality in the Cloverdale area.

The victim, a 55-year-old woman who lived close to the scene, was struck in a crosswalk by a northbound vehicle at 192 Street  and 54 Avenue around 7:30 a.m. on April 1. The woman succumbed to her injuries in hospital two days later.

In a news release Thursday afternoon, police released surveillance images from the area. Investigators believe the driver or occupants of a white Ford or Chevrolet full-size van, with rectangular windows on the passenger side, may potentially be witnesses of the collision, and might help identify a suspect.

(The news release identified the collision as a hit-and-run, but a subsequent correction one hour later noted the "the alleged driver did remain at scene for police.")

The van was travelling west on 54 Avenue, before turning north on 192 Street, around the same time as the collision occurred.

Anyone with information is asked to contact the Surrey RCMP at 604-599-0502 or Crime Stoppers, if they wish to remain anonymous, at 1-800-222-TIPS or www.solvecrime.ca
