A man wanted on child-rape charges in the U.S. was apprehended at the Peace Arch border crossing last week.

Officials with U.S. Customs and Border Protection say the 23-year-old was attempting to cross into Canada on May 22 when Canada Border Services Agency discovered a warrant out of King County for "third degree rape of a child."

Refused entry, the traveller was escorted back to the U.S., where he was fingerprinted, matched to the National Crime Information Centre warrant and detained.

“CBP officers at the Blaine ports of entry remain vigilant in intercepting people who are wanted for criminal activity,” area port director Kenneth Williams said in a news release issued Wednesday morning. “CBP and CBSA have an outstanding working relationship and together we ensure individuals face justice for the crimes which they are accused in our respective countries.”

The man's identity has not been released.
