Hundreds of police officers marched in Surrey shortly after noon Tuesday to honour three fellow RCMP officers killed in the line of duty in Moncton last week.
Const. Fabrice Georges Gevaudan, Const. Douglas James Larche and Const. Dave Joseph Ross (pictured below) were shot by a lone gunman on June 4. A suspect was arrested after a 30-hour manhunt in the New Brunswick city.
At the BC RCMP Headquarters in Surrey, Mounties, most of them in Red Serge, along with other public safety personnel and dignitaries such as Attorney General Suzanne Anton, held a brief memorial march, lining up outside while a prayer was said and words were spoken about the dedication of the three fallen members.
Wreaths – one large one for each of the three officers killed – were then laid at the foot of the Peace Officer Memorial outside the Surrey headquarters alongside several other bouquets of flowers.
A funeral service for the RCMP members was held in Moncton Tuesday, drawing more than 5,000 police officers from across Canada, including a delegation from B.C.
