UPDATE: Routine traffic stop turns into weapons seizure when officer spots four guns in backseat

Driver facing charges of improper storage, transport of guns

UPDATE: RCMP have confirmed that four long guns were seized from the truck.

A commercial vehicle traffic stop in Cloverdale yesterday afternoon turned into a weapon seizure when the Commercial Vehicle Safety and Enforcement (CVSE) officer spotted four long guns in the backseat of the truck.

Four Surrey RCMP vehicles responded to the incident, which took place near the intersection of 176 Street and No. 10 Highway early Thursday afternoon.

Employees at Cloverdale Auto Repair, which is across the street from where the truck and trailer was pulled over, said the police were on scene from around 1 p.m. to 3:15 p.m.

According to a Cloverdale Auto Repair employee, the pickup truck was most likely pulled over by the CVSE officer due to the wheelbarrow attached to the top of the truck, or due to the trailer being improperly attached.

The four weapons were seized by RCMP, and the driver of the vehicle was co-operative as he was taken into custody. He was later released with a promise to appear for a future court date, where he will face charges of improperly storing and transporting firearms.
