Surrey RCMP say man ‘apparently’ shot in leg

Police say incident was ‘not random’ and believe those involved knew one another

Surrey RCMP say a man was “apparently” shot in the leg in North Surrey on Thursday afternoon (July 25).

His injuries are described by police as “non-life threatening.”

Surrey RCMP responded to the scene, in the 10800-block of 139A Street, and road closures were in effect as officers investigated.

“The preliminary information indicates that this was not a random incident and involved parties (were) known to one another,” according to a Surrey RCMP press release.

“As to whether there is a connection to the drug trade or gang activity, it’s one of the lines of inquiry our investigators will be looking at,” Corporal Elenore Sturko told the Now-Leader.

The General Investigation Unit continues to investigate, and police say they are still gathering evidence.

Including this latest incident, there have been 22 reports of shots fired in Surrey so far this year, which police say is a 21 per cent decrease from this time in 2018.

There were 38 shootings in Surrey in 2018, and 59 in 2017. In 2016 there were 61 and in 2015 there were 88.

Anyone with information is asked to contact the Surrey RCMP at 604-599-0502 or, to make an anonymous report, contact Crime Stoppers at 1-800-222-TIPS or solvecrime.ca.
