Senior in medical distress rescued from South Surrey beach after ‘at least a day’

A Hovercraft was tasked to Crescent Beach Wednesday after an elderly man was found “in unknown medical distress” near 1,001 Steps.

The Hovercraft Moytel was tasked to Crescent Beach Wednesday afternoon after an elderly man was found “in unknown medical distress” near the 1,001 Steps trail.

The man had apparently been at the scene “for at least a day.”

According to marine search-and-rescue co-ordinator Dylan Carter, the vessel was requested by ambulance crews just after 1 p.m., to assist in transferring the man to the care of paramedics waiting at Beecher Street.

“They couldn’t stretcher him all the way up the stairs,” he explained.

The Moytel arrived at the scene just after 3 p.m.

Further information was not available by Peace Arch News deadline Thursday morning.
