Schools re-opened across B.C. on Monday, just days after an agreement was reached between the government and the province's striking teachers.
And parents in Vancouver were happy to walk their children into their classrooms once again.
"I feel like everybody, I think I feel pretty related today," said Donald Kumpf, a parent in Vancouver. "We've been waiting a long time for this. It's been a very hard struggle for the children.
"The uncertainty was over, that was the hardest part."
The teachers' strike – which started when picket lines went up in June – wiped out the end to the 2013/14 school year and the beginning of this one, cancelling the first three weeks in September.
"I don't think that the quality of education is going to improve," said parents Gillian Howden. "I don't know how they're going to make up the five weeks, that's what I'm interested in."
