The South Surrey office building that houses the Surrey Leader newspaper was briefly evacuated Wednesday due to a bomb threat.

A South Surrey office building was evacuated briefly following a bomb threat this afternoon.

Police rushed to the 5450 152 St. building, home to offices of Peace Arch News' sister paper, The Leader, just after 12:30 p.m, after the threat came in to the newspaper's classified lines.

Surrey RCMP Cpl. Bert Paquet said the caller appeared to be a young male, "advising there was a bomb in the building and to get out."

Approximately 50 people were evacuated and a police dog team sent in to investigate. Police also blocked off 54A Avenue to traffic.

Paquet said the search came up empty and the call was quickly deemed unfounded.

Workers were allowed back in after about 20 minutes.

Police are attempting to identify the caller through phone records.
