Surrey voters appear pleased with the work its school trustees have been doing over the last four years, voting back into office six incumbents – all members of the Surrey First Education slate.

A seventh school trustee representing White Rock, Laurae McNally, will also be back, having run unopposed.

Terry Allen, Laurie Larsen and Garry Thind were the top three vote-getters, followed by Bob Holmes, Shawn Wilson and Gary Tymoschuk.

As was the case in the 2018 election, Allen led the way in total numbers, with 46,642 votes (8.72 per cent) . Larsen was second with 45,695 votes (8.54 per cent) and Thind third with 44,840 (8.38 per cent). Wilson garnered 42,469 votes (7.94 per cent), Holmes 40,610 (7.59 per cent) and Tymoschuk rounded out the victors with 36,312 votes (6.79 per cent).

All six Surrey First members were also elected in 2014, as well – as was McNally, who was acclaimed then as well.

The highest vote-getter this year among non-Surrey First Education members was Balbir Gurm, of Team Surrey Schools, who got slightly more than 30,000 votes, with 33,879. Lisa Dawn Alexis, of the Parents Voice BC slate, was next in line, with 31,626 votes, while Gurm’s Team Surrey Schools running mate, Roxanne Charles, was next with 27, 493 votes.

In total, there were 20 candidates in the race for the six school trustee positions.
