Surrey logs its 40th shooting

Shots fired in the 8300-block of 135A Street on Wednesday night.

Shots rang out again in West Newton this week as Surrey records its 40th shooting of the year.

On Wednesday (May 18) at about 11 p.m., Surrey RCMP responded reports of shots fired in the 8300-block of 135A Street.

Police arrived to find evidence outside a residence area where a group had been gathering.

No injuries were reported.

Witnesses saw a black pickup truck leaving the scene along with a possible man fleeing the area on foot.

Officers have since located the black pickup.

The man who fled on foot is described as a tall and slim Caucasian male, wearing jeans, a white t-shirt, and possibly a white hat.

The investigation is still in its early stages, but initial indications are that it is a targeted incident.

This shots fired incident is not believed to be related to the most recent spate of shootings in Surrey.
