A Surrey man is facing charges after allegedly assaulting a Delta Police officer over the weekend.

Jessie Nolan, 34, has been charged with assaulting a police officer causing bodily harm and obstructing a police officer stemming from an incident that happened on March 18 in the 8600-block of 120th St.

Nolan was stopped at approximately 9 p.m. by a DPD officer conducting a street check. Police say he was initially cooperative until he learned he had an outstanding warrant for his arrest in relation to an incident in Surrey.

After a brief foot chase, Nolan allegedly engaged in a physical altercation with the officer and escaped custody. During the altercation the officer sustained injuries to his upper body, face and shoulder.

The officer was transported by ambulance to hospital where he was treated and released the following morning. He remains off duty while he recovers from his injuries.

In the early morning hours of March 22, Delta Police were advised by Surrey RCMP that their patrol officers had located and arrested Nolan on an outstanding warrant from an unrelated matter. He was located at approximately 1:40 a.m. in the 9100-block of King George Blvd.

Nolan appeared in court this morning to deal with the warrant that lead to his arrest. The warrant relates to charges of assault with a weapon and possessing a weapon for dangerous purpose from an incident that occurred on Feb. 7 of this year.

He is scheduled to appear again on these charges as well as those relating to the assault on the DPD officer on March 24.

Nolan is also due in court on March 30 to face charges of uttering threats to cause death or bodily harm and possessing a weapon for dangerous purpose. Those charges date back to Nov. 1, 2016.
