Surrey RCMP Sgt. Marc Searle is being remembered as 'a modest man with an even bigger heart.'

A Celebration of Life for a Surrey Mountie who has been described as a "gentle but formidable spirit" has been set for Monday afternoon at Peace Portal Alliance Church (15128 27B Ave.).

Sgt. Marc Searle – a South Surrey resident – died unexpectedly on May 17. He was off-duty at the time.

The 47-year-old father of three started with Surrey RCMP in 2000.

Among projects he championed was the large-scale Lifesaver 1000, an effort to teach 1,000 South Surrey students basic CPR; a campaign to identify and mark the graves of 36 veterans at Sunnyside Lawn cemetery; and redevelopment of South Surrey's Forever Garden, which was created in memory of murdered teen Pamela Cameron and others who died tragically young on the Semiahmoo Peninsula.

Monday's service gets underway at 3:30 p.m.
