Surrey murder victim identified

The man found dead near David Brankin Elementary School in North Surrey has been identified as 41-year-old Patrick Martin.

A witness told The Leader Wednesday a the body of a man was found bloody near the field at the 92 Avenue and 128 Street elementary school at just after 8 a.m. Wednesday.

While he didn't know who first spotted the body, children were playing in the field at the time.

Police came and shooed the children away from the body, he said, adding none of the kids seemed traumatized by the incident.

Police say the victim is a 41-year-old Surrey man, who the witness described as Caucasian and "covered in blood."

Sgt. Jennifer Pound of the Integrated Homicide Investigation Team, confirmed the homicide late Wednesday, adding the body was found in an alley at 92A Avenue and 128 Street.

It was there the man was found in medical distress and transported to hospital, where he died at 3 p.m.

Police say an autopsy has been ordered.

The Integrated Homicide Investigation Team is asking anyone who may have information about this homicide to come forward and speak with investigators.
