Surrey RCMP hunting for man who grabbed girl

Girl, 15, was on her way back from school on Wednesday when she was approached.

Surrey RCMP are hunting for a man who tried to grab a 15-year-old on her way home from school Wednesday.

On Oct. 30 at about 4;15 p.m. the student was in the area of 136 Street and 60 Avenue when she was approached by a male.

She said he had been following her for some time before grabbing her arm.

She broke free and ran to a family member’s home.

She was not injured during the brief struggle.

Police canvassed the area looking for witnesses and in consulting other specialized RCMP sections find no links to other similar reported cases.

The suspect is described as a Caucasian male, approximately 5’11” to 6’0”, medium build, late 30’s to mid 40’s, with a long broad red nose, short light brown hair, and salt and pepper stubble.

He was believed to be wearing baggy clothing including blue jeans which were stained or dusty near the bottom, and a long sleeve sweater or jacket of unknown colour.

“While we believe this to be an isolated incident, we need to warn the public and ask for their assistance in reporting suspicious persons or activities,” says Surrey RCMP Cpl. Bert Paquet.

Anyone with information about this incident is asked to contact the Surrey RCMP at 604-599-0502, or Crime Stoppers, if they wish to remain anonymous, at 1-800-222-TIPS.
