Surrey schools are closed today (Thursday, Feb. 9) to both students and staff.

“Schools and facilities closed to staff and students … due to unsafe road conditions,” Surrey Schools has posted on its website. “School district facility rentals for today are also cancelled.”

Facilities staff who are able to make in to work will be dealing with the ice and drainage issues at each site.

All campuses of Kwantlen Polytechnic University are also closed. Schools in the Langley district are also closed today.

Freezing rain overnight has caused unsafe travel conditions across the city. A travel advisory has been issued for travel on Highway 1 between Hope and Langley.

Temperatures  climbed above the freezing mark, this morning and a high of eight degrees is forecast. Heavy rain is expected today.
