A 16-year-old motorcyclist is dead after allegedly being cut off by a driver, who then fled the scene.
Surrey RCMP say the collision took place just before 11 p.m. Tuesday (June 24) near the intersection of 96 Avenue and 123A Street .
Police say several witnesses said they saw a silver Honda Accord driving eastbound on 96 Avenue in the fast lane signalling to turn left on 123A Street. The motorcycle was driving eastbound on 96 Avenue in the fast lane when the Honda allegedly turned left in front of the motorcycle.
The driver, say police, continued driving north on 123A Street for about a block before abandoning the car and fleeing on foot.
The teen motorcyclist was taken to hospital but died of his injuries.
Police at the scene used dogs to attempt to track the suspect, with no luck. Investigators are attempting to contact the registered owner of the Honda and are trying to get a physical description of the driver.
"Once again, by leaving the scene of an accident, a driver has elevated a motor vehicle act investigation to a criminal matter and will have to suffer the consequences of that decision,” said Cpl. Bert Paquet.
The Surrey RCMP’s Criminal Collision Investigation Team (CCIT) is investigating with the assistance of the Integrated Collision Analysis and Reconstruction Service (ICARS).
