Police say a break-in at a South Surrey veterinary hospital last week is a good reminder to business owners that they are more susceptible to crime if they are adjacent to a vacant business.
Sgt. Drew Grainger said the thief or thieves who broke into the Peninsula Crossing Animal Hospital (2382 152 St.) sometime between close of business Aug. 25 and 8:20 a.m. Aug. 26 came through a wall formerly shared with 7-11.
The space has been vacant since the convenience store closed earlier this summer.
It was a "crime of opportunity," he said.
The culprits removed a glass panel from the empty business, then kicked through the wall, Grainger said. They made off with a small amount of cash.
Police were called at 8:20 a.m. Aug. 26, and are asking that anyone with information on the person or persons responsible call the Surrey RCMP detachment at 604-599-0502.
As yet, they have "no substantial leads," Grainger said.
