Top 10 tweets of Surrey in 2016 by ScanBC

Woman picks up her daughter from school in stolen car; man fleeing RCMP, picks apples while on a rooftop...

For the most part, the reports tweeted from ScanBC are serious police or fire incidents.

But some of them, whether it’s a drunk or cat in a tree, or a woman picking up her child from school in a stolen car, tend to either make one smile, or just give pause.

The Leader has collected 10 of the more surprising Surrey tweets from ScanBC.

The tweeting year started early, when on Jan. 10, there was the tweet of a bovine blockade.

Then less than two weeks later, it was about Surrey RCMP responding to a soapy altercation.

In March came twitter shout out of an erratic, sombrero wearing driver on Fraser Highway.

Then, four days later, came the drunk in a tree.

On May 17, Surrey firefighters were called to a Whalley home where a man set his smoke alarms off while vaping.

Vaping has become the rage in the region, and authorities are still grappling with how to deal with it.

On June 3, police responded to a woman who picked up her child from school in  stolen car.

Ten days later, firefighters were on the iconic response to rescue a cat in a tree.

Then in July, Surrey RCMP responded to a call of an ice cream driver who crashed his truck in a ditch. He was drunk.

Full coverage of the event.

On Sept. 21, a man fleeing from police climbed up a roof. While police worked to get at him, he picked apples from a tree.

Quite a year on social media, as reported by ScanBC.
