One man and one woman are facing charges in connection with a crash Tuesday afternoon on Highway 99 in South Surrey.

According to Sgt. Lorne Lecker, of the RCMP's Deas Island Traffic Services, the pair were arrested shortly after noon on June 7, near the South Surrey Park and Ride.

The arrest occurred shortly after police were alerted to a single-vehicle crash on the highway. It took place minutes earlier, when a vehicle hit the highway's centre median, just north of the King George Boulevard overpass.

The vehicle involved was determined stolen and its occupants left the scene on foot, Lecker said.

Police, firefighters and paramedics – along with a man and woman – could be seen on the overpass, at the entrance to the southbound highway on-ramp, around 12:30 p.m. Tuesday.

Lecker said the arrested pair are being investigated for possession of a stolen vehicle and unrelated drug offences.
